The buildings here
Permanent homes and cottages, often on uneven lots or close to the water. Many buildings put up in stages over the decades: an extension in the seventies, a sunroom in the nineties, an attached garage later still.
What we're asked for most
Redoing an aging foundation before it turns into a structural problem. Turning a seasonal cottage into a home that can be lived in year-round. Adding an annex or a porch built to carry you through winter, and not only to enjoy the summer.
The area's own challenge
A building enlarged three times in forty years does not have one structure: it has three. Each section has its own foundation, its own construction method and its own age, and the connections between them are almost never documented. Before touching anything, we have to understand where the load really travels today, which almost never matches the original plans, when they still exist.
It is time invested up front, the kind many cut short, and it is exactly where the bad surprises wait for you in the middle of the job.
The short season. Everything touching a foundation or an exterior structure is planned around frost. A project decided in April for the coming summer is already a project running late.
